Meet the "1-2-Can" Toucan: The End of Guesswork. At the 1-2-Can Project, we believe that if a child can’t understand your recycling instructions, your instructions are broken. For years, manufacturers have hidden behind "invisible" symbols and a confusing mess of numbers (#3 through #7) that are effectively garbage. This confusion is costing our municipalities—including right here in Mansfield—"shitloads" of money in contamination fees and wasted labor. We’re fixing that with a bird that tells the truth. Why a Toucan? Our mascot isn't just a "cool" character. He is a walking (and flying) instruction manual. He’s designed for the "overwhelmingly ignorant" consumer and the "almost illiterate" label-reader alike. Here is how to read the bird:
Our Standard: "Clear-as-Day" We use this logo on our High-Visibility Bin Stickers to create a "Simple 4" rule:
If it doesn’t match the bird, it doesn’t go in the bin. No magnifying glass required. No "wish-cycling" allowed. Why This Matters for Mansfield. Every time you put a "bullshit" #5 yogurt cup or a #4 plastic bag in your blue bin, the city loses money. It jams the sorting machines and leads to rejected truckloads. Our logo is a filter at the source. We’re taking the guesswork out of the kitchen and putting the pressure back on the manufacturers to stop hiding their labels. Recycling isn't a mystery. It’s 1-2-Can.
